Happy Mother’s Day to all the gorgeous mothers out there. Today I am just going express what I feel about a mother’s love. A mother is a walking miracle , her love is magical which I think no poet or artist could ever portray it or describe it through paintings and poems. Her love is so pure and selfless, that sometimes I wonder that how can someone be so benevolent and self-sacrifising, its just beyond my imagination. In these 19 years of my life, I have learnt one thing for sure that no one will have your back forever except your mother. She will be standing right beside you in every phase of your life and without expecting anything in return. A mother and a child are connected through a umbilical cord at first but then, connected through hearts for life. A mother is the only person who will love you deeply and unconditionally till her last breath. So, on this Mother’s Day I watched a wonderful movie wth my mother and its name is “ROOM” it is old movie which was released in 2015 but is recently available on online streaming platforms. It is directed by Tommy Wiseau. The movie is based on a girl who gets kidnapped, confined to a tiny room and raped and after 2 years she gives birth to baby boy, who becomes her light of hope to get out of this hellhole. The movie is so beautiful that it just wrenched my heart. Me and my mother both cried atleast twice/thrice while watching it. The movie also conveys this message that a mother will not even think twice for putting her life in danger, in order to save her child’s life. In the movie the child’s name is Jack, who is unaware of the fact that there is a big world outside the tiny room in which they live. The kidnapper never used to take them out and has locked the door using password protection so that there is no chance they could escape out. The movie is a absolute masterpeice and one of the most underappreciated films of modern era. The character writing is outstanding and every line feels genuine and carries a emotional weight. The story is so suspenseful that it will give you rapid heart beats. The movie has got 4.6 ratings out of 5 and even I feel that this movie is worth watching on this special day.
There is a saying in Tibetan, “Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.” No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that’s our real disaster.” The 14th Dalia Lama
Picture courtesy : One India
When we shouldn’t lose hope means that we should make sure the same tragic things does not happens again.
Didn’t we learned a lesson 35 years ago? And yet, here we are with a repeated history. The same incident took place 35 years ago in the state Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. Though Bhopal was much worse than Vizag. The death and the aftermath was so horrific that for weeks people had suffered diseases related to the gas. Both the tragedies were same in a way, both happened due to the negligence of the company’s authorities. Slack management and deferred maintenance which in result created a situation where routine pipe maintenance caused a backflow of water into a MIC tank, triggering the disaster.
If such tragedies keeps on happening we don’t know how many toxicity one country can take, so this happening is another lesson for the whole old and promising nature of the Government.
Bhopal and Vizag were not so different from each other, the whole situation was covered up with an excuse of being mistaken or being blamed on a worker being irresponsible and never even once mentioning their own fault of being irresponsible, siting in a comfortable chair of an AC room they decide the problems and solutions of the poor people who becomes the victim of such hazardous incidents. The atleast 50 days untouched machines were being used suddenly without any inspection resulting the death of 11 people including elderly, women and infants.
Even with the compensation the grief and the bigger loss of a person’s life cannot be replace or compensate with anything but a justice can bring relief to the families who have lossed their loved ones. Seeking for justice and looking forward to a better tomorrow without any tragic incidents and without a history being repeated incidents would be a better India to live in. The hope of seeing a better India.

It’s sad, but genuine that ‘RAPE’ is the fourth most normal wrongdoing against females in India. It’s a severe truth that 80% of the instances of assault cases are done by somebody known to the person in question. It’s hard to confide in anyone in time of downfall, whether he’s your uncle, your driver, your worker or any other person.
Pitilessness by spouse or his family members represents 27.9 percent of the violations against ladies.
Lion’s share of the cases are recorded under this IPC segment revealing insight into the high predominance of abusive behavior at home in the country. The figures are exceptionally upsetting as these features the proceeded with helplessness of ladies in the national capital even 7 years after the abhorrent assault and murder of a 23-year-old medico here, which had made an across the nation shock and prompted promises by the political and regulatory initiative to address the issue with all reality.

While getting back from work out in the open vehicle, there are such a significant number of dull stretches I need to pass every day. All through most of mankind’s history, men would in general view ladies as mediocre and of lower request Raised in talk, squashed truth be told, ladies have, for a really long time, been made survivor of men’s numerous domineering savageries and shameful acts. Causing licentious calamity is one of the most belittling gadgets men have embraced to cover and oppress ladies and, in this manner, support their own predominance.
Now that the world is on hold. Days feels longer and boredom stretches out to this extend that you’ve binged watched almost every latest series and movies and dramas and what not! So like any of you, I started piecing my life with throwbacks and again stumble upon this not so forgotten master piece of 2016.
IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD.
It is a Japanese animated war time film directed by Sunao Katabuchi. The film is a brief piece of world war 2, based on the manga written by Fumiyo Kono.
It circles around the life of a young woman named Suzu, who is very dreamy and naive who loves to draw. She along with her parents and siblings stays in a small town of Hiroshima called Eba. In 1943, Suzu being an 18 year old was arranged to be married to an unknown man named Shusaku, the movie leaves out the deal of ideologies and politics during the war thus the story is solely based on suzu’s prespective. A young common girl. Suzu’s husband turned out to be a very kind man who comes from Kure city, 15 miles away from Hiroshima. the story gradually unfolds the daily life of common people during the war and how they manage to cope up with it or manage to survive it also shows how suzu lives like a regular Japanese house wife in her husband’s house.
The movie also highlights the food shortage struggle and how Japanese people built caves to survive bombs. The turn of events during the war led suzu to lose her right hand and her niece Harumi. Despite all the tragedies Suzu faced, she managed to outgrow it but when a big blast in Hiroshima occurred killing many, the emperor of Japan announces the end of war by declaring surrender to allied powers which leaves Suzu in despair remembering her loses. |
This was just a bit of the movie; you can watch it on Netflix. Where I am very fond of Animes which provide a taste of common life, this movie will not disappoint you but will give you a warm nostalgic feeling and has a deep meaning in it. But at the same time it’s not preachy and shallow. And so simply put, in this corner of the world is a delight watch.
As intriguing the title sounds and as pretty the book looks, I present you a book you can definitely judge by it’s cover.
During a lazy time like this, following the same eat-sleep routine where purpose of life might seem a little hazy now, here is a Japanese mantra to get you an answer to your never ending “i don’t know what to do with my life” frustration.
This book is based on a Japanese concept of living life that is IKIGAI which means ‘the happiness of always being busy.’ It is made from two Japanese words: ‘IKI’ meaning life and ‘KAI’ meaning the realization of hope and expectation and if simply put ‘a reason to jump out of bed each morning.’
The book comprises pieces about longevity and study of Okinawa island of Japan where maximum centenarians, 24.55 out of every 100, are found. What do they eat, drink, how do they exercise, how do they manage stress, how living in close community and social ties and relationship is having an impact on their well being and longetivity was surveyed.
The good read moments I have shared with this book have felt nothing but self investment. Usually non fiction books are not that interesting for many but this book directs you to find your personal IKIGAI, which means to find something you love, something you’re good at, to manifest something that the world needs.
Once you understand the meaning of IKIGAI, the book tries to explain the art of being young while growing old. Where everything is about finding your meaning of life the book also encourage the idea of being in flow that is to be completely immerse into the experience so that no other stuff can distract you. It definitely does not seems very subtle and easy to find your IKIGAI right away and so their are several tips from the locals of Okinawa about what habits should be encouraged to live a better life.
While concluding the book the author unfolds another Japanese technique called ‘WABI SABI,’ an idea of finding beauty in imperfection, according to this technique Japanese people find imperfection, incomplete and flaws beautiful.
Here flawed is preferred as it resembles to nature. Perceptually, I understood IKIGAI to be a passion which is in everyone, which gives meaning to our life and gives us the inspiration to be our best to the very end of life.
‘Note to Self’ is a memoir by the YouTube sensation Connor Franta.
Instead of being a black and white word book, it’s full of colored pictures, connecting us with the greater, outer world of the author. It breaks the monotony and adds on to the aesthetic value of the book.
This book revolves around a variety of topics and seems like a little guide for teenagers and young adults. The author tries to make his point by using his own experiences and examples, thus keeping the whole story real instead of using hypothetical examples.
He touches a variety of topics through the book like self love, self acceptance, relationships- both with own self as well as with others. He also deals with some sensitive topics like dealing with depression and body image issues and very subtly reminds us all of the value of kindness.
In a world where everyone is obsessed with perfection and seeks happiness in being accepted in the society, this book teaches us that the only way to attain true happiness is by accepting one’s flaws and being okay with it and being a salad bowl instead of being a soup bowl. At times articles and at other times epiphanies, poems or quotes, this book is a new take on young adult non fiction which is not the norm is modern literature.

The proposed amendments in the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill aim to expand women’s access to safe and legal abortion services on therapeutic, eugenic, social and humanitarian grounds.
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was passed by the Lok Sabha on March 17, 2020. The bill seeks to amend the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 and increase the upper limit of legal abortions to 24 weeks for special categories of women.
The bill was passed in the lower house of the Parliament through a voice vote. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan stated that the proposed bill seeks termination of pregnancy in cases involving victims of incest, rape survivors, minor girls, differently-abled girls or in case of a pregnancy that has substantial foetal abnormalities.
SIGNIFICANCE:
With the passage of time and advancement of medical technology for safe abortion, there is a scope for increasing upper gestational limit for terminating pregnancies especially for vulnerable women and for pregnancies with substantial foetal anomalies detected late in pregnancy.
Further, there is also a need for increasing access of women to legal and safe abortion service in order to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity caused by unsafe abortion and its complications.
Considering the need and demand for increased gestational limit under certain specified conditions and to ensure safety and well-being of women, it is proposed to amend the said Act.
Before 1971, abortion was criminalized under Section 312 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, describing it as intentionally ‘causing miscarriage’.
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020, provides for,—
(a) requirement of opinion of one registered medical practitioner for termination of pregnancy up to twenty weeks of gestation;
(b) requirement of opinion of two registered medical practitioners for termination of pregnancy of twenty to twenty-four weeks of gestation;
(c) enhancing the upper gestation limit from twenty to twenty-four weeks for such category of woman as may be prescribed by rules in this behalf;
(d) non applicability of the provisions relating to the length of pregnancy in cases where the termination of pregnancy is necessitated by the diagnosis of any of the substantial foetal abnormalities diagnosed by a Medical Board;
(e) protection of privacy of a woman whose pregnancy has been terminated.
The Bill proposes the requirement of the opinion of one registered medical practitioner (instead of two or more) for termination of pregnancy up to 20 weeks of gestation (foetal development period from the time of conception until birth).
It introduces the requirement of the opinion of two registered medical practitioners for termination of pregnancy of 20-24 weeks of gestation.
It has also enhanced the gestation limit for ‘special categories’ of women which includes survivors of rape, victims of incest and other vulnerable women like differently-abled women and minors.
It also states that the “name and other particulars of a woman whose pregnancy has been terminated shall not be revealed”, except to a person authorised in any law that is currently in force.
As y’all know the pollution level has been very hazardous in the previous years, many breathing difficulties have been there for the people living in Delhi NCR. In Delhi, poor quality air irreversibly damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 per cent of all children. People were suffering from sore throats, headaches and this poor air quality can also lower the lung capacity. Mostly the infants, small kids and the senior citizens we’re prone to get diseases due to the polluted air.
After winning the Delhi election 2016 Arvind Kejriwal of Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) decided to bring the odd-even rule to improve the air quality of Delhi. The odd-even rule is odd-numbered and even-numbered vehicles will exercise on the roads on alternate days. Vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd numbers will be allowed on the roads on odd days and even-numbered vehicles will be allowed on the roads on even days. For example, vehicle registration numbers ending with 0,2,4,6 or 8 are allowed on days such as the 14th, 16thor 18th of a month. Similarly, vehicles with registration numbers ending in 1,3,5,9 can ply on the roads on days such as 13th, 15th or 17th of a month. This was practiced for 15 days in December.
The peak rise in pollution was due to the bursting of crackers and crops burning in Punjab and Haryana, the airwaves are pushed towards Delhi and it is situated in between both of the cities and the polluted air get clogged this is the reason behind the rise in pollution at this period of time. This system actually improved the air quality of Delhi and this approach was practiced again in April for 15 days and it was a success again. People find some difficulties but they got used to it.
In November 2017 breathing in the capital of India was like smoking 50 cigarettes a day, Delhi has become the most polluted city on Earth. The air quality became really terrible. On November 8, pollution climbed so high that some monitoring stations reported an Air Quality Index(AQI) of 999, way above the upper limit of the worst category, Hazardous.
It is safe the breath at an AQI of 150 so it became very difficult for the people, masks were needed while people were going outside there homes. It happened after the Diwali celebration from the next day itself people cannot see properly on the streets. United Airlines cancelled its flights to India’s capital because of poor air quality. Visibility was so bad that cars crashed in pileups on highways and trains had to be delayed and cancelled. Hospitals reported a 20 per cent surge in patients with pollution-related illnesses, and doctors have declared a public health emergency. The chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal himself said: “Delhi has become a gas chamber”
In some days of December 2018, the average AQI went to 450. Senior government officials said the main reasons for the surge in the amount of toxic smog trapped over New Delhi were unusually cold air, including fog, and a lack of wind. The previous highest recording this year was 447 on 15 June, when there was a dust storm. In some parts of Delhi, pollution levels hit 654 on 24th December 2018, among the worst recorded this year, and visibility in some parts of the city was just 200 metres, the weather department said.
In 2019 Delhi was already considered one of the world’s most polluted cities, and it’s only gotten worse this month. Air quality deteriorated so significantly that the local government declared a public health emergency, schools were shut down, and flights were cancelled.
The Supreme Court also ordered to ban on farmers burning crop stubble to clear their fields innearby states. The government’s environmental monitoring agency found that satellite pictures showed more than 3,000 incidents of such agricultural burning in neighbouring states, amounting to almost half of the city’s pollution, Reuters reported.
But after March 2020 due to the unfortunate pandemic (Coronavirus) the world is suffering from, the AQI has been improved people can now actually breathe fresh air instead of any toxic air in which substances like ammonia, carbon monoxide, nitrous oxide etc are present. The AQI levels are usually a severe 200 on a good day. During peak pollution periods last year, they soared well into a life-threatening 900 and sometimes off the measurable scale.
On 11th April 2020 Dr Shashi Tharoor, a politician and author who has been vocal on environmental issues, said he hoped that it was a wake-up call. “The blissful sight of blue skies and the joy of breathing clean air provides just the contrast to illustrate what we are doing to ourselves the rest of the time,” said Tharoor. “Today the typical Delhi AQI hovers around 30 and one blissful afternoon, after a spurt of rain, it dropped to 7.”
“Seven,” Tharoor exclaimed again in disbelief. “In Delhi! Pure joy.!” It is the absence of cars on some of the world’s most congested roads that seem to be making the most crucial differences. One terrible irony of the current crisis is that a pandemic that makes it difficult for some to breathe has, by curbing pollution, eased respiratory troubles for others.
I hope after seeing an improvement in the air quality due to coronavirus, Delhi will still, continue to have the same breathable air after this current lockdown.
